Smith Brothers of Berne
Nestled in the heart of this magnificent country, lies the small town of Berne, Indiana. Set apart from the fast paced, trend chasing city centers, you are more likely to hear the clip clop of horse feet than sirens or blaring horns. Fields stretch across the horizon and time-honored traditions govern daily life. It is here that a sense of pride in quality craftsmanship grows deep. This community, who’s rich history has instilled integrity and respected values, is the foundation for Smith Brothers upholstery.
Every decision here is made with a heart for people. Whether it be the quality of lumber framing the furniture or the types of games to be played at the company picnic, it all comes down to doing what is right, not only for the customer, but for the family of employees.
This is why nothing, but the best is considered when it comes to sourcing components for each and every Smith Brothers piece. Hardwood maple, steel coil springs, highest quality foam, gorgeous textiles, top grain leathers and more are all selected for their strength, durability, and beauty. Each sofa, chair, or ottoman is designed to be a treasured part of a home for years to come.
Inspired by norwegian nature since 1941.
We have designed and manufactured furniture for 70 years. The two brothers Otto and at Mindor Hjellegjerde started it all in the fjord village Sykkylven in Norway.
In 1946, the third brother, Ingvar, joined the business. With a fierce dedication and great skill, the brothers managed to build a business that has become one of the largest furniture companies in Norway. We have grown from a small family business in a basement to what we are today, a company spread over four continents.
Rowe started as a vision of two men in Virginia 70 years ago and has developed into one of the world’s most respected domestic custom upholstery manufacturers. Rowe has not just been a part of history, but we have gained valuable experience from it. For over the past 70 years and for many years to come, Rowe has earned the trust and has inspired millions of customers.
We are committed to eco-friendly manufacturing. Rowe has been an innovator, a visionary, and a company committed to listening to our customers and adapting to their needs. All of which means that when you buy Rowe, you’re not just buying furniture. You’re buying the collective experience that can only be gained from selling and listening to customers for 70 satisfied years. We understand that you purchase what inspires you and require a quality product for your family and home.

Palettes by Wineburg
American Made Furniture, from forest to fabrication. Located in the rolling farmland of Ohio’s Amish country, Palettes by Winesburg is a third generation of lumber specialists who hand-select the best of the cherry, oak, maple, walnut or hickory tree to bring you our quality products. Our family selects and harvests the timber, shapes it in our own sawmill, and then carefully checks it in our own dry kilns. We know the building of solid wood furniture from its roots. Winesburg Lumber had its origins as a two-man logging operation more than three generations ago. As the younger generation became a part of this growing organization they felt that diversification was a path for future success and growth, and so we began building doors and contract grade chairs. This has evolved into one of the most complete custom dining lines in the country. We are proud of the furniture we produce.
Our rich heritage is a source of great pride for us. It’s a story that goes back to 1902, when furniture making was shifting from local cabinet makers to larger scale production to keep up with the growth of America.
If you want to know how it all began, we have to take you back to late 1800s in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains to an area northwest of Martinsville, Virginia. The Bassett family was running a sawmill that supplied rail ties for the new Norfolk & Western line that was being built through the family property. In 1892, the rail line was completed and the family began looking for markets for its lumber.
John David “J.D.” Bassett was making a good living traveling the countryside selling goods for general stores when he began carrying lumber samples from the mill. He quickly made his first sale of lumber to a coffin company in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and returned home with the knowledge of the growing furniture industry and the subsequent demand for raw lumber.
Today, Bassett remains committed to the early principles of the company … that great quality, stylish furniture does not need to be expensive and should be available to everyone. A visit to one of our stores and you’ll see just how committed we are to that idea.

American Drew, a division of La-Z-Boy Incorporated, is a service-oriented company. Our concept of service is not limited to fast delivery; it starts with good communications and great partnerships.
It began in 1893 when Edsko Hekman ventured from the Netherlands to Grand Rapids, Michigan hoping to find his life’s work as a furniture maker.
The Panic of 1893 would lead him in a new direction, returning him to his first profession as a baker. Selling cookies door-to-door, Edsko eventually went on to found the Hekman Biscuit Company, which was later to become the Keebler Company.
Edsko’s enchantment with furniture, crafted in the old-world traditions, would later blossom in his three sons John, Jelle and Henry. They would fulfill their father’s dream and open the doors of the Hekman Furniture Company in 1922.
In 1970 the company became a division of Beatrice Foods until 1983 when Hekman was purchased by the Howard Miller Clock Company of Zeeland, Michigan. In 1993, Hekman acquired Woodmark Furniture, an upholstery company founded by Elliot Wood whose discriminating standards were a perfect match to Hekman’s long tradition of excellence. The company now enjoyed a position of strength in its ability to offer its customer superior casegoods and the finest in upholstery.
The careful selection of ingredients, the patient hands-on techniques and the exacting presentation… the shared passions of the baker Edsko and his furniture-making sons, remain the hallmarks of the Hekman Furniture Company today.
Now, almost a century old, Hekman is widely recognized as one of America’s premier furniture suppliers.
Incomparable workmanship. Unsurpassed quality. A quest for perfection. It’s what Howard C. Miller insisted on when he founded the company back in 1926, at the age of 21.
Even then, Howard Miller understood the need to create products that would be steeped in quality and value. He expected nothing less than the best. And it was only under those strict conditions that he allowed his name to grace every clock manufactured at our sprawling facility in Zeeland, Michigan.
Howard Miller was schooled in the fine art of clockmaking by his father, Herman, in the Black Forest region of Germany. Howard developed into a visionary whose keen sense of innovation spawned a tradition of excellence that has been uncompromised through three generations.
While the early years focused on the manufacture of chiming wall and mantel clocks, Howard Miller also produced trend-setting avant garde clocks that stand today in collectors’ galleries. During World War II, Howard Miller joined forces with the Ford Motor Co. to produce anti-aircraft covers. In the 1960s, the company turned its attention to grandfather clocks, eventually earning the company the title of “World’s Largest Grandfather Clock Manufacturer.”
In 1989, Howard Miller began creating collectors cabinets with the same attention to detail and craftsmanship inherent in their clockmaking. Fashioned from glass and hardwoods, the cabinets are ideal for displaying heirlooms, plates, glassware and other collectibles.
As part of the company’s continuing effort to bring customers only the best in handcrafted products, Howard Miller recently acquired three companies: The Hekman Furniture Company produces a strong cadre of carefully sculpted hardwood pieces that range from 18th and 19th Century reproductions, to contemporary products featuring fine metals and exotic woods. The Woodmark Company makes fine upholstered pieces. And the exquisite movement in many clocks we offer is made by Old World craftsmen employed by the Kieninger Company of Germany.
While Howard Miller products might once have been primarily considered as gifts for weddings, anniversaries and retirements, the company’s expanded line of offerings is enticing more and more buyers who simply desire quality timepieces and furniture in their homes and businesses — no occasion required.
We offer hundreds of items to complement any decor ranging from portable alarm clocks to desk sets to wall and mantel clocks to collectors cabinets to limited edition grandfather clocks. And in price ranges that may surprise you – from $5 to $15,000.
No matter the price of the purchase, you have the same assurance that Howard C. Miller provided when he began offering clocks more than 70 years ago: That quality be reflected both in the products we create, and in the people whose artistic talents we rely on to manufacture them.
The legacy left by Howard C. Miller isn’t an easy one to emulate. But it’s the only way we know of doing business. Incomparable workmanship. Unsurpassed quality. A quest for perfection.

Jenny McKellar Photography
I discovered my love for photography at Western Michigan University, where I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. I since then became passionate about nature photography when I moved from Grand Rapids to Traverse City in 2005. I currently live in Leelanau County with my husband and two boys, with whom I love to rock hunt, hike, kayak, and explore our beautiful area.
I have a few things going for me that help me get great shots: technical knowledge and an artistically-trained eye from my schooling, a nice Nikon camera, and a whole lot of patience. But I believe nature photography is ultimately serendipitous. My favorites shots, the ones that actually capture the essence of that day/ place/ moment/ memory, the ones that paint a story that I didn’t even know was there, only happen when I’m having fun!
Please email me for other print sizes or special requests! You may see some of my photos in area businesses and restaurants, and many can be purchased at Golden Fowler Home Furnishings. I really love doing local shows where I can actually make a connection with people and talk to them about my work. Look for me at the Downtown Traverse City art fairs and several others every summer. And be sure to follow me on Facebook to see my latest ventures!

The original company was formed in 1998, and was then purchased by Curtis M. Warnes in 2005. Curtis grew up in Glen Arbor, MI. a small town just minutes from where his business is located. At age 18 he moved away in pursuit of an education. After college he moved back to Glen Arbor for only a year before taking a job that required him to travel. Then in 2002 his daughter was born and the need for him to be back home was greater than ever.
As a child he had always envisioned owning his own business in Northern Michigan that would allow him to use his creativity and natural talents in a way that would be rewarding not only to him but to his community and the world at large. After years of searching and putting his dream on hold an opportunity was presentenced. That opportunity has become a nationally sold and recognized line of art and products. From Alaska to Florida, and Maine to Hawaii, his work can be found through out.
