About every 43 minutes, a child in the U.S. is injured from a TV or furniture tip-over incident. Properly mounting or anchoring can prevent these tragic incidents. Get on top of it before they do!

Golden-Fowler Home Furnishings has joined the U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to help protect children from the danger of furniture tip-overs. The program is called Anchor It! and the goal is to both raise awareness of this danger and encourage consumers to anchor their furniture to the wall to prevent tip-overs.

We’re excited to offer, at no charge, a tipping restraint kit for furniture to guard against tip-overs — whether you purchased the furniture from our store or not.

One way tipping can take place is when a bedroom chest has the top drawer pulled out and a child opens the bottom drawer and stands in it. Injuries occur from the resulting high center of gravity and the chest tipping over. While there is no substitute for proper adult supervision, two simple brackets and a strap to tie them together is all that is required to make the chest safer for temporarily unattended children.

“There is a renewed focus among North American furniture makers to help ensure that a tipping restraint kit with instructions is included in taller bedroom furniture,” says Mike Mahn, owner of Golden-Fowler Home Furnishings. “We realized there isn’t a dedicated local resource here in northern Michigan for retro-fitting older dressers and chests. We want to do what we can to provide resources that help make furniture safer for children, even if their parents and caregivers didn’t buy that furniture from us.”
